This category is for what are commonly called grasses. The monocotyledonous plants that are known as the true grasses are in the family Poaceae. Plants commonly known as grasses that are not members of this family include grass-like members of the rush family (Juncaceae) or the sedge family (Cyperaceae); seagrasses; species of Xyris (Yellow-eyed Grass); and Ophiopogon japonicus (Mondo Grass).
