Historiography of the Second World World studies the processes by which historical knowledge about the war is obtained and transmitted. Broadly speaking, historiography examines the writing of military history and the use of historical methods, drawing upon such elements such as authorship, sourcing, interpretation, style, bias, and audience. The word historiography can also refer to a body of historical work on a given area of research within the larger field of Second World World studies. As the tools of historical investigation have changed since the end of the war and influenced by their application in different participant states, the term itself bears multiple meanings and is not readily associated with a single all-encompassing definition.
