Definition from Wiktionary, a free dictionary

Medieval Latin was not the native or first language of anyone (as opposed to Latin or Late Latin/Vulgar Latin, which were native languages for many). It was an acquired language used especially for written communications in the Middle Ages. There was not one standard form of Medieval Latin; rather it was somewhat heterogenous according to time, place, author, speaker etc. Local variants include Anglo-Latin.
